Mathematics: Form and Function Saunders Mac Lane

The maths genius's letter described several new functions that behaved differently from known theta functions, or modular forms, and yet closely mimicked them. I strongly recommend Saunders Mac Lane's book Mathematics: Form and Function, for some very clear thinking on this and other philosophical topics. Interests in math and code have led me to consider specific topics described in texts such as Knuth's The Art of Computer Programming, Bourbaki's The Elements of Mathematics, or Lane's Mathematics: Form and Function. This is a very intuitive way to feel and learn math. The best book I know of for the latter is Mathematics: Form and Function by my favorite mathematician, Saunders Mac Lane, one of the founders of category theory.
