An environment for scientific computation, data analysis, and data visualization. Numerical computing environments (we'll use MATLAB for an example, since it's widely known) are often used for algorithm development, data analysis, visualization, matrix manipulations, and statistical analysis. It is an interactive computing environment and fourth generation programming language for numerical computation, algorithm development, and data analysis. This is the first semester that two courses, Computing and Data Analysis for Environmental Applications (1.017) and Uncertainty in Engineering (1.010), are being jointly offered and taught as a single course. Comprehensive coverage of the most popular analysis tools allows readers to pick and choose the techniques that best fit their research. Functional data analysis (FDA) is a relatively new branch of statistics, going back to the early 1990s, but its mathematical foundations are rooted in much earlier developments in the theory of operators in a Hilbert space and the functional analysis. Collaborative work performed by the Remote Data Analysis and Visualization Center (RDAV) and University of Tennessee (UT), Knoxville, artist Evan Meaney that examines the interplay of data, information, and knowledge has won the jury prize for the Distributed Microtopias exhibition at the 15th Annual Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF). Matlab is a business application developed by MathWorks, Inc. Techniques for sparse data are implemented in the Matlab package PACE developed at the University of California at Davis, available at http://anson.ucdavis.edu/~mueller/data/software.html, at the time of writing. Programming applications include display and assessment of possible casual relationships between variables. MATLAB - a high-level technical computing language, interactive environment for algorithm development and modern tools of data analysis. Matlab/Octave is supported for symbolic calculations. The program can be used to display data and functions in D and 3D. Posted on January 17, 2012 by Maria. Please join MathWorks for a free MATLAB seminar on Data Analysis and Visualization.
